Consecration of M H Maxwell Gumbleton as Bishop of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. 1 Jan 1917

By these presents we Henry Lowther by Divine Providence Lord Archbishop of Melbourne and Metropolitan of the Province of Victoria in the Commonwealth of Australia, do make it known unto all men that on the Feast of the Circumcision in the Year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and seventeen, in the Cathedral Church of Saint Paul Melbourne with the assistance of the Right Reverend Father in God, John Douse, Lord Bishop of Bedigo, Thomas Henry Lord Bishop of Wangaratta , Arthur Wellesley Lord Bishop of Gippsland, The Right Reverend Bishop Green, formerly Bishop of Ballarat, We did duly and canonically consecrate our beloved in Christ, the Reverend Maxwell Homfray Maxwell-Gumbleton, Doctor of Divinity, as Bishop of the See of Ballarat within our Province according to the manner and form prescribed for the ordination of Bishops contained in the Book of Common Prayer of the Church of England he having first before us taken the oaths and made and subscribed the declarations which in this case are required by the Laws of the Church of England in the Province of Victoria to be taken made and subscribed.

In witness whereof we have causd our Archepiscopal Seal to be affixed to these presents this 1st day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and of the fifteenth year of our consecration.
