Supplement to the collections in Add. MSS 23,108 - 23,138 - 23,242 - 23,251, etc of which selections were published by O. Airy (Camden Soc 1884). Besides original official correspondence, etc, of John Maitland, 2nd Earl and 1st Duke of Lauderdale, Secretary of State in Scotland, 1661-1682, they contain several original papers of Sir William Maitland of Lethington, Secretary of State under Mary Queen of Scots, and papers of other members of the family.
