| Conrad Stollmeyer was a German immigrant to Trinidad - a great entrepreneur who first used pitch from the Pitch Lake of Trinidad as a road surface to cover a mule track to facilitate the transport of sugar. He went on to ship asphalt to Europe and to use pitch for many purposes: distilled for lamp oil and burnt on street corners as a precaution against cholera! | ||
