|From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Thursday 28th Dec 2006.
The funeral of Violet Maud (Joan) Gumbleton, 90, of Wootton Bassett, was conducted by the Rev Thomas Woodhouse at Kingsdown Crematorium.
Mrs Gumbleton was married to Burma Star veteran Bob Gumbleton, who died in September 2005.
She was known as Joan in Wootton Bassett where she was a former Avon cosmetics consultant. The name given to her when she was an evacuee to save confusion with another evacuee called Vi. On her return home she became Vi again, but later reverted to Joan.
Mr & Mrs Gumbleton lived at Fulham before retiring in 1978 to Wootton Bassett, where they made many friends. They enjoyed visiting country pubs and exploring the countryside. Mrs Gumbleton's Avon round brought her into contact with many people who became her friends.
She was devoted to her family and, although latterly her mobility was limited, she enjoyed regular contact by phoning family and friends - including her son Roy, who visited from Australia last year.
Wartime songs by Vera Lynn were included in the service and the funeral ended with We'll Meet Again.
