TranscriptIn the name of God amen the seventh day of March ann. dom. 1576 I Robert Gomelton sicke in body but of good & perfitt remembrance do make my last will & testament in manner & forme followinge.
First I comitt my soule into the hands of almighty God & my body to be buried in the church yard of Birtford in sure and certain hope to rise agayne by the power of God and by the meritts of my Saviour Jesus Christ to life everlastinge.
Item I give to the poor mens box of Birtford a xiid[twelve pence]
Item to our Lady Church a xiid. [twelve pence]
Item I give to Joan Gomelton & to Robert Gomelton my brothers sonne one aker of wheat to be divided betwixt them.
Item I give to Joan Gomelton yearly during my lease a xxs [20 shillings] after my debts be paid.
Item to Robert Gomelton my brother Roberts son [sic] in like manner yearly during my said lease after my debts be paid a xxs [20 shillings].
Item I give to William Gomelton yearly during my said lease one aker of land.
Item I give to Edith Gomelton my brothers daughter xls [40 shillings] to be paid the last year of my lease out of the portion of the said Joan Gomelton & Robert Gomelton.
Item if it happen my wife to dye before my said years be expired I will then those years then remayninge to go to the use of the said Joan & Robert. And if my wife refuse my said will then I will the said Robert to be executor to performe my will.
The residue of my goods not given nor bequeathed I give to Avis my wife whom I make my executrix of this my last will & testament.
Item I will Thomas Smyth the younger and John Shepherde the elder of the Upper End? and John Gomelton my brother to be my overseers of this my last will and testament in the presence of me John Shepherde vicar[?] ther Thomas Smyth William Gomelton John Shepherde and many other.

Robert=Avis [Grey] Robert? or John? William | | Joan Robert EditheRobert's (the testator's) brother is referred to as Robert but maybe this is a mistake as a brother John is also mentioned.
