Will of John Gumbleton, Shaston St Rumboll, 4 Aug 1733

In the name of God Amen

I John Gumbleton Senior of the Parish of Shaston St. Rumbolls otherwise Cann in the County of Dorset, being sensible of my mortality, but of sound mind and memory do make & constitute this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills, this fourth Day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred thirty and three.

After bequeathing my soul to God in full & certain Hope of a resurrection thro Jesus Xt my Saviour I bequeath my worldly Goods as follows.

Imp: I give to my Eldest Daughter Elizabeth Gumbleton Eighty Pounds being one moiety of the one Hundred & sixty pounds payable to me from my son John Gumbleton by Virtue of Articles between my said Son & me bearing Date the tenth of November one thousand seven Hundred thirty & two, to be paid to my said Daughter within twelve Months after my Decease.

It: I give to my other Daughter Martha Gumbleton Eighty Pounds being the other moiety payable to me from my Son by Virtue of the Articles above mentioned to be likewise paid within twelve Months after my Decease.

It: I give the two Thirds of my Goods reserved in the Articles between my son & me, abovementioned, to be equally divided between my two Daughters abovementioned.

Lastly my Will & Pleasure is that my Son whom I make my whole & sole Executor, have all my other Goods & Chattles & Moneys, except what is above given, & whatever I shall die possessed of. In Witness whereof I have set my Hand & Seal the Day & Year abovewritten.

I John Gumbleton of the Parish of Cann being in sound Mind & Memory do add by way of Codicill to my within Will this that follows, for the better understanding of my Will & the more certain Security of my Son & Executor.

Forasmuch as my Son John has in my Life time paid the eighty Pounds within bequeathed to my Daughter Elizabeth upon her marriage with John Spearing, I do hereby discharge & acquit my Son who is my Executor from paying the within eighty Pounds bequeathed to my said Daughter Elizabeth in all other Parts confirming my within Will.

In witness whereof I set my Hand & seal this Fifth day of July in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & thirty six.

This will of John Gumbleton the elder late of Shaston St Rumbolls in the County and Archdeaconry of Dorset deceased was proved by John Gumbleton the younger the natural and lawful Son of the said deceased and sole Executor above named, to whom administration of all and singular the goods etc of the said deceased was granted He being first sworn upon the Holy Evangelists faithfully to administer the same according to Law.
