|Roger Gomeldon was (according to his will) a yeoman of Porton, Wiltshire. He is believed to be a son of John Gomeldon and, when his father died in 1534/5, Roger inherited the family's lands in Porton and Winterborne, Wiltshire. For details, see the later grant of Arms to the Gomeldon family which refers to an Inquisition Post Mortem held in "the six & twentieth yeare of the Reigne of King Henry the Eighth whereby it was found that JOHN GOMELDON held certaine Landes in Porton and Winterborne afforesaid and that ROGER GOMELDON was his heire."
In 1545 Roger Gomeldon paid 13s 4d tax "for the Benevolence". This was money raised by the King, particularly because of the expense of wars with Scotland and France.
Roger's will mentions his 3 brothers. They are not named, but two of them might be the Thomas Gomeldon and Harry Gomeldon, who are mentioned. He also names his 'brother Coxe', who is presumably a brother-in-law.
The will names his wife as Alice and mentions 3 children, but the only named child is his son, William, who is aged under 20.
He refers to his father in law William Wymbledon so, presumably, Alice's maiden name was Wymbledon.
