|Robert Gumbleton was a son of Thomas Gumbleton and his wife Mary, nee Perryer. He was baptised at West Grimstead, Wiltshire on 11 Mar 1770.
He is named as the father in two bastardy examinations of two different women, that took place in 1792 and 1794. In the first he is described as a gardener and the second a labourer.
His baptism date would fit very well with his being the Robert Gumbleton who died, aged 50, in 1820 (see the person numbered [N0004]). However, the bastardy examinations do appear to relate to the present Robert Gumbleton and for them to be the same person, he would have had to go from being a labourer and gardener, fathering illegitimate children around West Grimstead to being a shopman in Sherborne, with the skills to run a substantial grocery shop, in a period of about a year, as well as becoming eligible to marry the daughter of a prosperous shopkeeper. This seems improbable.
The mothers of his two children are shown as 'spouses' above, because this is the only relationship that the software currently supports.
A more plausible theory would be that he was the Robert Gumbleton [M07770] who died aged 59 in 1830, in Marylebone, London.
