|John Gumbleton was a son of John Gumbleton, of Shaftesbury, and his wife Sarah, nee Small. He was baptised on 5 Oct 1777 at Holy Trinity Church, Shaftesbury, Dorset.
In 1796, he was working as a servant in the nearby village of Handley and was recorded in the Militia List for that village (which recorded all men aged between 18 and 45 years).
In 1798, He married Hannah Cox at Handley, Dorset. Their five children were baptised in the Dorset villages of Ashmore and Gussage St Andrew.
No death or burial records have been found for either John or Hannah.
