|Jessie Gumbleton was a daughter of John Gumbleton and Eliza (nee Dunford). She was born in 1846 in the St George in the East district of London. In 1851, the family were living at 29 Holywell Lane, Shoreditch, where her father was a corn dealer. They were still in the Shoreditch area in 1861 and Jessie, aged 14, was listed as a scholar in the census.
By 1871, Jessie was working as a nursemaid, livingin Stork's Rd, St Olave, Bermondsey, south London., and in 1881 she was a general servant in the household of William Cubitt, a stationer, at 13 London Rd, Croydon.
In the 1891 census, she was an assistant nurse, now aged 44, living at the Highgate Smallpox Hospital, Islington, Middlesex. In 1901 she was working for Edward Maple (a carpenter) and his family, as a "Monthly Nurse", at their home at18 Lucars Hill, Lewisham, Surrey. In 1911, she was a nurse in the household of Alfred William Hammett (a dairy farmer) at High Road, Potters Bar, Middlesex.
The 1919 and 1921 electoral rolls show her living at 1 Osborne Cottages, Little Heath, St Albans, Herts: perhaps this is where she retired to.
She died in 1922 in the Barnet Registration District. Se never married.
