| Robert Gumbleton was an illegitimate son of Hannah Gumbleton. He was baptised at Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 18 Jan 1787.
In 1815, he married Frances Capel at St James’s, Shaftesbury. They had five children. The 1841 census shows Robert, an agricultural labourer, living with his wife and four of their children in Poor Houses, St James Street, Shaftesbury. In 1851, they were living in Olive Yard, Shaftesbury, and Robert, now aged 65, was a pauper, late agricultural labourer. Frances, his wife, died in 1855 and was buried at St James, Shaftesbury. In 1861, he was a lodger in the household of his son’s mother-in-law, Elizabeth Gray, a widow. Robert died in 1862 and was buried in Shaftesbury. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
